Mechanical Engineer

 Mechanical Engineer


Job Description:
In MACOM's MMIC Business Unit we design MMICs and IMAs for cellular, aerospace & defense, and other wireless applications.  We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design packaging for MMICs, waveguide components, power supplies, support PCBs, and test systems for RF & Millimeter Wave multi-chip modules. 
 

  • Be responsible for the mechanical design layout, test, and release of RF/MMW IMAs using content from other engineering disciplines from kickoff through engineering evaluations.
  • 3D Modeling using Solidworks.
  • Package MMICs, waveguide components, PCB based, and thin film based products.
  • With support of other engineering disciplines, design and document cost effective mechanical parts and assemblies to support product development.
  • Work with our MMIC design, electromagnetic design, analog/digital design, assembly, and test teams to develop new products as well as production methods.
  • Keeping up to date, maintaining passion, and an unwavering thirst for knowledge about the latest RF/MMW packaging and interconnect technologies.
  • Analyze data using sound statistical methodology to achieve business goals.
  • Work with our Business Development team on bid & proposal activity.
  • Work with Sourcing Group to qualify vendors for materials and external manufacturing processes.
  • Initiate prototype builds and manage product characterization. You will design evaluation hardware and characterization fixtures, then direct or perform measurements.
  • Generating design reports, progress reports, test reports, datasheets and bill of materials.
  • Generate manufacturing drawings and documentation.
  • Update design rules as required.
  • Lead peer review of design concepts.
  • Participate as functional lead in external design reviews.
  • Cooperating with Project Manager in order to maintain an up-to-date project plan and schedule.
  • Work with our Product Engineering group to transfer the product to production.
  • Advocate for Mechanical Engineering as a function and technology area within the company
  • Customer support as required.
     

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Mechanical drafting skills (AutoCAD/Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing technologies for packaging electronics such as machining aluminum, plastic injection molding, and additive manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Test and measurement skills using common test equipment to make measurements such as hardness, tensile strength, mass, torsion, heat flux, voltage, current, power, etc.
  • Experience using equipment such as microscopes, drill presses, lathes, calipers, etc.
  • Bona fide GD&T, subtractive, and additive manufacturing enthusiast.
  • Ability to analyze data using sound statistical methodology and effectively presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical management.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills to interface with internal cross-functional teams and subcontractors
    Good organization skills
  • Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
