RF/MMW IMA Mechanical Designer

RF/MMW IMA Mechanical Designer

Job Description:
In MACOM's MMIC Business Unit we design MMICs and IMAs for cellular, aerospace & defense, and other wireless applications.  We are looking for an experienced RF/MMW IMA Mechanical Engineer with experience designing packaging for MMICs, waveguide components, power supplies, support PCBs, and test systems for RF & Millimeter Wave multi-chip modules.  You will:

  • Be responsible for the mechanical design layout, test, and release of RF/MMW IMAs using content from other engineering disciplines from kickoff through engineering evaluations.
  • 3D Modeling using SolidWorks.
  • Package MMICs, waveguide components, PCB based, and thin film based products.
  • With support of other engineering disciplines, design and document cost effective mechanical parts and assemblies to support product development.
  • Work with our MMIC design, electromagnetic design, analog/digital design, assembly, and test teams to develop new products as well as production methods.
  • Work with our Business Development team on bid & proposal activity.
  • Initiate prototype builds and manage product characterization. You will design evaluation hardware and characterization fixtures, then direct or perform measurements.
  • Generating design reports, progress reports, test reports, datasheets and bill of materials.
  • Generating manufacturing drawings and documentation.
  • Working with outside vendors and manufacturing partners
  • Update design rules as required.
  • Lead peer review of design concepts.
  • Participate as functional lead in external design reviews.
  • Cooperating with Project Manager in order to maintain an up-to-date project plan and schedule.
  • Work with our Product Engineering group to transfer the product to production.
  • Keeping up to date and maintaining passion for the latest advances in engineering documentation.
  • Customer support as required.
  • Coaching and mentoring of more junior members of the design team.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience designing high precision mechanical components as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • 10+ years of 3D modeling experience using SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro/Engineer or similar (SolidWorks preferred).
  • 10+ years of 2D drafting and creation of manufacturing drawings.
  • Bona fide mechanical design & engineering documentation enthusiast.
  • Familiarity with electronics packaging techniques.
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools and data files.
  • Familiarity with PDM (Product Data Management) systems.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience.
  • Good communication, organization and documentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build long lasting partnerships. Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Due to ITAR regulations, the candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
